A Pápai Bencés Gimnázium tanára, de tanított Sopronban, Kőszegen, Győrött és Esztergomban is. Több vidéki lap munkatársa, 1916-tól az Esztergom és Vidékének szerkesztője. A régi magyar nyelv szakavatott kutatója, jelentős néprajztudós. Érdeklődésének középpontjában a néptánc kutatás állt. Bartók és Kodály népzenei kutatásával párhuzamosan, de attól függetlenül dolgozott. A magyar néptánccal foglalkozó első tudományos mű szerzője.
