A győri Királyi Ügyészségen joggyakornok, 1871-től királyi ügyész. Az 1860-as években versei jelentek meg a Győri Közlönyben, amelynek 1869–1871-es években szerkesztője. 1877-ben Mihálkovics Tivadarral együtt megalakította a Győri Csónakázóegyletet, amelynek később elnöke. 1882. augusztus 22–23-án Balatonfüreden megszervezték az első vitorlázó és úszóversenyt, amelyen Hercegnő nevű hajójával Némethy is részt vett A következő esztendőben a Balatonfüred-Keszthely közötti versenyen megfázott és tüdőgyulladásban meghalt. Kívánságának megfelelően a balatonarácsi ref. temetőben nyugszik. Tagja volt az 1882-ben alakult Balaton Egyletnek is.
