Keszthelyen járt gimnáziumba. Az első világháború után újságíró-gyakornokként dolgozott, majd villamoskalauz Budapesten. 1922-ben bekapcsolódott a munkásmozgalomba, 1933 után szakszervezeti vezető. A második világháborúban munkaszolgálatos, átszökött a szovjet csapatokhoz. A háború után magas szakszervezeti és állami tisztségeket töltött be: volt a SZOT főtitkára, a MKP Központi Vezetőségének és Politikai Bizottságának tagja, több tárca minisztere. Veszprém megyével mindvégig szoros kapcsolatot tartott. Az 1947. évi választásokon az MKP részéről Veszprém megye országgyűlési képviselőjének választották és több ciklusban képviselte a megye érdekeit. Jelentős szerepet vállalt 1947-ben a veszprémi Batsányi János Népi Kollégium létrehozásában és három évig tartó működésében. Ő nyitotta meg 1949. október 22-én a Veszprémi Vegyipari Egyetemet. Képviselőként és miniszterként sokat tett a megye úthálózatának és közlekedésének korszerűsítéséért. – Sírja Budapesten, a Kerepesi úti temetőben van.<br /> <br /> ==Művei==<br /> <br /> *A Dunától a Donig.
